11. Christian Bale–The Machinist
Christian Bale has played many well known characters from his role in the Prestige, and his turn as Batman in the Dark Knight Trilogy. He’s been known to get very into his parts in a more method acting sense, but none more so than when he played a factory worker in The Machinist. He had to lose 63 pounds to play a man who was feeling guilty over the death of a co-worker. It’s said that he subsisted on an apple, a can of tuna fish, and only water all day to lose the weight fast. The reason he wanted to lose the weight for the role is that it was originally written for a much shorter actor so he wanted to be the same weight as someone who would be around 5’6” when in reality he is 6 feet tall.
